Turning Into a Vampire
ByDavid Artsmith - The idea of the vampire as a creature in literature and media is one which is actually a lot broader than people think. The term vampire can be applied to aliens that drink human blood, demons that walk the earth, or genetically altered people with an aversion to the sun, as well as the traditional undead walker of the night. There is a basic underlying vision of the vampire, which does seem to hold even the losest imaginings together under that one umbrella terms, via characteristics such as blood drinking, daylight aversion, and magical abilities.
The method by which a vampire is created is tied in to what kind of vampire the creature will actually become. In classic vampire tales, the transformation comes about due to a vampire biting a victim, causing the victim to turn at a later date. This can be caused from virus, transfusion of blood, or some sort of magical means.
A variation on this has the vampire drinking the blood of the victim, and then replacing it with their own blood, either through feeding it to them, or through some sort of transfusion.
Another method for becoming a vampire is to use some sort of a spell, or some magical means. In this method the power of the spell alters the human being, giving them all of the traditional characteristics of a vampire. However depending on the vampire spell, those characteristics can be accentuated or changed in a variety of ways.
Possession is another popular method for turning an otherwise normal human into a vampire. In this method a demon, or some other spirit, inhabits the body of the human, changing their physiology from the inside to match that of the vampire that they will become.
As you can see there are a wide variety of methods for becoming a vampire, and each one results in a very different type of creature being created.
